Justice League, a 1960 DC comic that brought Batman, Superman, Wonder Women and other iconic DC super heroes into the same ring, is finally going to be made into a movie.

Warner Bros. has confirmed it has hired Zack Snyder – who directed Man of Steel - to direct the planned blockbuster, which could hit theatres as early as 2018.

According to WB production president Greg Silverman, a Justice League script is in active development.

Silverman said once Snyder finishes his planned 2016 Batman/Superman movie, he'll work on the new one.

'It will be a further expansion of this universe,' Silverman told the Wall Street Journal.

'Superman vs Batman will lead into Justice League.'

Silverman didn't provide details on which heroes would be in the film, nor how they would handle characters such as the Green Lantern, who was played by Ryan Reynolds in the 2011 that was widely panned. Other DC heroes who have been in Justice League include Aquaman and Flash.

The studio has allegedly been trying to cast the role of Cyborg, a half-robotic hero who is expected to have a cameo in Batman Vs. Superman and then appear in Justice League.

For the 2016 Batman/Superman movie, the Wall Street Journal reports Superman would be played by Man of Steel's Henry Cavill, while Batman would be Ben Affleck.

Newcomer Gal Gadot has been cast as Wonder Woman in that character's big screen debut.

The WSJ reports if Wonder Woman's portrayal is well received, the character may get her own film as well.

WB tried to mount a Justice League film with DJ Corona as Superman and Armie Hammer as Batman, but the idea was thrown out in 2008.
