Steven Spielberg To Direct Roald Dahl's The BFG Live-Action Movie - Entertainmentwise

Steven Spielberg has reportedly signed up to direct a new movie adaptation of Roald Dahl's classic children's novel The BFG.

The book was previously an animated hit in 1989 with the voices of David Jason, Amanda Root and Angela Thorne; and is now being remade as a live-action blockbuster.

The Hollywood Reporter claims that Spielberg is the latest director to sign up for the project, after Chris Columbus previously pulled out.

However, before he begins, he has another film on the agenda: an untitled Cold War thriller that will see him back to work with Tom Hanks.

The pair previously worked together on Saving Private Ryan, Catch Me If You Can and The Terminal; and will reportedly reunite this September to begin filming the Matt Charman script.

The story follows James Donovan (Hanks), a prominent American attorney enlisted by the CIA to negotiate the release of a pilot captured when his plane was shot down over Russia.

The BFG will be filmed immediately afterwards; so probably at some point in early 2015. Spielberg seemingly has a knack for shooting movies back-to-back, having previously done 'Jurassic Park' and 'Schindler's List', and also 'War Horse' and 'The Adventures of Tintin' in quick succession.
