Audiences didn't have to think very hard about which new movie to see on Friday, as the Kevin Hart comedy "Think Like a Man 2" earned a solid $12.2 million. Clint Eastwood's "Jersey Boys" was singing a much sadder song.
Screen Gems' "Think," a sequel to the 2012 hit, is on its way to $32 million or so for the weekend. That puts it just about on the same level as the first film, which earned $33.6 in its opening weekend.
"Think 2" also stars Michael Ealy, Jerry Ferrara, Meagan Good, Regina Hall and Gabrielle Union.
Another comedy sequel -- "22 Jump Street," starring Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill -- took second place, picking up another $9.4 million. Its domestic total stands at $91.8 million.
Yet another sequel -- DreamWorks Animation's "How to Train Your Dragon 2" -- flew at No. 3, scaring up another $7.6 million. So far, the film has earned $77.4 million domestically. It still has a long way to go to match the original's domestic haul of $! 217.8 million.
Eastwood's "Jersey Boys," the weekend's other wide opener, hit a sour note on Friday, earning just $4.6 million for fourth place. It will likely earn between $13 million and $15 million over the weekend.
Based on the smash Broadway musical, the Four Seasons biopic doesn't feature any known star, and will have a tough time turning a profit on its reported $40 production cost.
Angelina Jolie and "Maleficent" rounded out the top five, conjuring up $4 million, brining its domestic total to a big $176.9 million.
Hollywood is getting an early start on the Fourth of July holiday next week, with "Transformers: Age of Extinction" hitting theaters on Friday, June 27, with "Earth to Echo," "Deliver Us From Evil" and the Melissa McCarthy comedy "Tammy" following on Wednesday, July 2.
