Tracy Morgan is showing "signs of improvement."
The actor, who was involved in a New Jersey highway collision that claimed the life of veteran comedian James McNair and left four injured, remains hospitalized in critical condition, but E! News has learned that the star's medical team is hopeful of his recovery.
"Today was a better day," Morgan's rep said in a statement to E! News. "While Tracy remains in critical, but stable, condition, he continues to show signs of improvement. His medical team remains optimistic that his recovery is progressing. Megan remains by his side and is relaying the countless good wishes and prayers that his family, friends and fans have been sending their way."
The 45-year-old funnyman was riding in a Mercedes Sprinter limo bus on a highway near Cranbury Township when a semi-truck slammed into the vehicle at about 1 a.m. on Saturday, June 7, causing it to overturn.
Another semi-truck, an SUV and two cars were also involved in the accident, which killed a 62-year-old man, authories say. The victim, James McNair, is also a comedian who used the stage name Jimmy Mack.
Kevin Roper, the driver behind the wheel of the truck that plowed into a limo bus carrying the 30 Rock star early Saturday morning, pleaded not guilty on Wednesday to one count of vehicular homicide and four counts of assault by auto. If convicted, each count of assault by auto carries a maximum 18-month prison term, while the vehicular homicide charge carries a five- to 10-year prison sentence.
