Hugh Jackman, star of 'X-Men: Days of Future Past,' claws his way into Daily ... - New York Daily News

We did it for a good claws.

The Daily News enlisted "X-Men: Days of Future Past" star Hugh Jackman, Wolverine himself, to field questions from readers Wednesday in an exclusive live chat.

It didn't take long for the Tony and Emmy winner-and host of the June 8 Tony Awards-to how that he may be a thespian, but his mutant power is self-deprecating comedy.

"Including myself, three," he said in answer to a question about how many people he's unintentionally injured on the set with his fake Wolverine claws.

"But one of those I injured twice. Once stabbing this woman, and once hitting her in the face. And I actually liked her. "

And it turned out that even the bravest of superheroes felt fear when confronted with a nude scene that showcased his rear in the movie opening Friday.

"You have no idea what goes into the lead up to a scene like that. It was a year ago," said Jackman, in answer to a reader's inquiry about the sequence. "I know that exactly because it was May 21. I stopped drinking water for 24 hours, I pumped up on set for about an hour before shooting. And fell asleep by 2 o'clock."

It got even more embarrassing when he was watching "Days of Future Past" with his children and forgot to warn them about the scene.

"It is actually really cool to watch it with them until you get to the moment where you're naked onscreen and you forgot to warn your almost 9-year-old daughter," Jackman said. "And she says 'Dad, why aren't you wearing underwear?'"

The Australian-born actor's favorite part of living in his adoptive hometown of New York City?

"The fact that any day, when you leave your apartment, you can only know half of what might occur. It's always surprising."

Another reader asked if he had doubts about taking his role as Jean Valjean in "Les Miserables." He was nominated for an Oscar, but the film required him to sing live on the set instead of to a pre-recorded track.

"Yeah, I had doubts," he said, I actually think it's good to have doubts. It means you're stretching yourself, challenging yourself. It was very difficult. But the alternative, which is miming, (that's) much harder."

Jackman also talked about his return to Broadway in the upcoming Jez Butterworth play, "The River," gushing about the writing behind the drama.

Geeks could also rejoice: though it's not official yet, after that he confirmed he'll return to play his signature character in a third "Wolverine" movie set for 2017.

"I'm enjoying it more than ever," he said.
